The Petit Champagne region is one of the top cru areas in the Cognac region of France, known for producing high-quality cognac. It is characterized by its chalky soil, similar to that of the Grande Champagne region, which provides excellent drainage and imparts a distinct minerality to the grapes. Cognacs from Petit Champagne are renowned for their finesse, floral aromas, and long aging potential. The eaux-de-vie from this area develop complexity and depth over time, contributing to the production of premium cognacs.
The Borderies region is the smallest and one of the most exclusive cru areas in the Cognac region. It is known for its unique terroir, which includes clay-limestone soil interspersed with flint and stones. Cognacs from Borderies are prized for their distinctive floral bouquet, particularly notes of violet and iris, and a smooth, round palate. The eaux-de-vie produced here age more rapidly than those from other regions, resulting in cognacs with a rich, nutty character and a touch of spice. This combination of qualities makes Borderies cognacs highly sought after for blending and as standalone expressions.
